At CBMG, we are passionate advocates for breastfeeding, committed to creating a supportive community and fostering positive change in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As a non-profit foundation, our mission is to champion breastfeeding through education, empowerment, and advocacy.
Conference Committee Mission: The cornerstone of CBMG's work is the organization of a bi-yearly conference that brings together healthcare professionals and experts to share knowledge, experiences, and the latest advancements in breastfeeding. This conference serves as a hub for learning, networking, and building a strong community of individuals dedicated to promoting breastfeeding as a fundamental aspect of maternal and child health.
Community Action Mission: Calgary Breastfeeding Matters Group actively engages in impactful community action. Committed to creating a breastfeeding-friendly environment in Calgary, CBMG collaborates with local organizations, healthcare providers, and community groups. CBMG utilizes community trade shows, advertising (ie local bus ads promoting skin-to-skin care), and organizes community events to educate, promote, and support breastfeeding in Calgary.
Political Action Mission: Calgary Breastfeeding Matters Group (CBMG) extends its advocacy to the political arena, recognizing the importance of influencing systemic change to support breastfeeding initiatives. When appropriate we respond to concerns expressed by the community by writing letters to institutions, governments, or agencies to educate and promote the protection of breastfeeding. CBMG's political action committee scans for violations of the international code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes, and provides links and information on the rights of breastfeeding parents. We advocate for the protection of breastfeeding, the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, and the rights of those breastfeeding their babies in Alberta to institutions, government, or agencies.
